Ham & Swiss Hot Sandwiches
These sandwiches are just to die for. My mom made these in the fall and winter when I was growing up, and I find that every now and then, I get a huge craving for them. The menu for Friday called for soup and hot sandwiches, and at the last minute I remembered these lovelies.
Ingredients:
- sliced ham; really any lunch meat would do the trick, but traditionally what my Mom has always used is thinly shaved deli ham. I had a brand new package of ham in the fridge, so I refrained from hitting the deli, but they are wonderful either way.
- sliced Swiss cheese; again, Mom usually goes with thinly sliced deli Swiss, but I had a brand new package of sliced Swiss, so I went with what I had.
- eight rolls; these can be anything that makes you happy…usually Mom used onion rolls from the deli, butI grabbed just some plain deli rolls, and they worked beautifully.
- mayo
- dill pickle chips
Could not be easier to put these together, either. Liberally mayonnaise the top and bottom of the roll, then put down four to five slices of ham. Top with three or four pickle chips, to your taste, then a slice or two of Swiss. Put the top on, then wrap each sandwich in foil. Place all of your sandwiches onto a cookie sheet, and place into your preheated oven (350 degrees). Leave them in for about 30-45 minutes, then carefully unwrap and enjoy!
Messy, warm, and absolutely delicious!
Ohhhh, it’s so worth it to wait on these to warm up! The cheese gets all melty, and the flavors just meld together…
